European Projects

UPPA actively participates in European programmes both in terms of training and research. The ambition is to develop partnerships, which are already numerous in this area, and demonstrates the growing success of competitive calls for projects in this field (Horizon Europe, Erasmus+, Interreg...). Some examples of projects in coordination:

REACH-UPPA

REACH-UPPA is a large-scale program designed to provide high-quality training to ten highly qualified international postdoctoral researchers (PDRs), in line with the interdisciplinary missions of the University of Pau and Pays de l’Adour (UPPA).  Over a five-year period, this program will bring together the core expertise of the University and its partners to support postdoctoral researchers in achieving excellence in research and leadership. It will have a significant impact on research units, the University, and the region, while fostering the professional development of early-career researchers.

MET-SUSCOAT

MET-SUSCOAT is a cross-border scientific cooperation project focused on the development of sustainable and advanced coatings for the protection of metal parts in the transportation industry. This project brings together four academic and industrial partners (University of Pau and the Pays de l’Adour, Public University of Navarra, University of the Basque Country, and AEROPROTEC SERVICES). It is funded by the Spain-France-Andorra Cross-Border Cooperation Operational Program (POCTEFA).

Mobility of students and higher education staff supported by foreign policy funds (Erasmus+)

Through this large-scale project, UPPA coordinates incoming and outgoing student and staff exchanges with five strategic partners in the GEMINAE network: the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí and the University of Monterrey in Mexico, the University of Abomey-Calavi in Benin, the Pedagogical University of Maputo in Mozambique, and Hassan II University in Casablanca, Morocco. Mobility programs serve as a catalyst for expanding the range of specialized programs offered by UPPA and its partners, creating and/or revitalizing dual-degree programs, developing joint thesis supervision arrangements, and launching joint research and/or training projects in collaboration with socio-economic stakeholders. The project also includes an annual “staff week” in the spring, during which UPPA will host academic and administrative staff from the various participating partners.

RADIO (Erasmus+)

This "ERASMUS Capacity Building in Higher Education" project brings together six partners from Algeria, Egypt, France, and Turkey. It aims to raise awareness, provide support, and introduce participants to scientific research in the following six fields: health, agriculture, urban development, sustainable development, the environment, and renewable energy.

For the Cyber-Physical Systems Architecture team at the Computer Science Laboratory of the University of Pau and the Pays de l'Adour (LIUPPA), whose areas of expertise—developed through several European R&D projects—include the Internet of Things, autonomous systems, and embedded AI, this is an opportunity to forge collaborations and synergies with various stakeholders in order to develop programs that address current environmental and societal concerns.

Euro-Institut Pyrene

Euro-Institut Pyrene, a university institute for cross-border cooperation, is a Franco-Spanish institution whose mission is to support, facilitate, and participate in cross-border cooperation, particularly in the regions of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Navarre, and the Basque Country. It aims to serve as a facilitator of cross-border cooperation

CHORAL

Coordinated by the Université de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour, CHORAL (Cultural Heritage Outreach in RomAnce Languages) is a Horizon Europe Marie SkÅ‚odowska Curie programme co-funded by the European Union. CHORAL aims to train high-quality international researchers and encourage the development of interdisciplinary, international and cross-sectoral research that addresses all aspects of cultural heritage. Successful applicants will enrol in co-tutored PhD programmes that will require international mobility. Students in the choir will benefit from dedicated events and a tailor-made doctoral training programme.

Regions4Climate

The Regions4Climate project aims to collaboratively develop and demonstrate a socially just transition to climate resilience. Based on cross-sectoral roadmaps developed with regional stakeholders, the project will create and implement innovations combining socio-cultural, technological, digital, business, governance and environmental solutions to reduce the vulnerability of European regions to the impacts of climate change.

RESCUER

The RESCUER project, part of the EXCITE network, is a European infrastructure initiative designed for scientists seeking to unlock the secrets of Earth materials using some of the world’s best electron and X-ray imaging facilities. TRAME: Revitalizing Women’s Memories in the Pyrenees Region

At the heart of the TRAME project, the border is viewed not as a dividing line, but as a space of passage, movement, and shared narratives. By bringing together French and Spanish perspectives, TRAME offers an inclusive reinterpretation of Pyrenean heritage, focusing on women’s experiences and cross-border cultural dynamics, through a multidisciplinary approach that combines the humanities and social sciences, artistic creation, and digital humanities.
